Hyderabad, November 14, 2025:
The Indian National Congress has secured a decisive victory in the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, with party candidate Naveen Yadav defeating BRS nominee Maganti Sunitha Gopinath and BJP’s L. Deepak Reddy. The Congress win marks a significant boost for the ruling party in one of Hyderabad’s most high-profile and influential constituencies.
A Clear and Steady Lead Throughout Counting
From the early rounds of counting, Naveen Yadav maintained a strong lead and continued widening the gap as the day progressed.
By the end of round 6, he had secured over 60,000 votes, leading by approximately 15,000+ votes, a margin that increased steadily through subsequent rounds.
Election officials conducted the counting at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium under strict security arrangements. The process was smooth, with no major disruptions reported.
Low Turnout but Clear Mandate
Despite Jubilee Hills recording a relatively low voter turnout of 48.49%, the Congress candidate managed to consolidate support effectively.
Of the 4.01 lakh eligible voters, only around 1.94 lakh cast their votes. Still, the mandate remained clear and strong in favor of Congress.
Why This Victory Matters
The Jubilee Hills win carries significant political importance:
- Prestige Seat: Jubilee Hills is one of the most prominent urban constituencies in Telangana, home to influential voters and key business communities.
- Shift in Urban Sentiment: The victory suggests growing urban support for the Congress, especially after securing power in the state.
- Setback for BRS: The loss is a blow to the BRS, which has historically held strong appeal in parts of Hyderabad.
- BJP’s Struggle Continues: Despite hopes of expanding its urban footprint, the BJP failed to make a notable impact in this by-poll.
High-Tech Polling Standards Introduced
The by-election also stood out for using AI-based content tagging and GPS-tracked EVMs, setting new standards for transparency and modern election management in Telangana.
What’s Next for Congress?
Naveen Yadav’s victory strengthens the Congress’ position in Hyderabad ahead of upcoming municipal elections.
Party leaders have called the win a reflection of public trust in their governance and vision for Telangana.
