TGSRTC Sankranthi Special Busses : to Operate 6,431 Special Bus

TGSRTC Sankranthi Special Busses: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced the operation of 6,431 special bus services to handle the heavy passenger rush during the Sankranti festival season. These special services aim to ensure smooth and safe travel for thousands of passengers travelling from Hyderabad to their native places across Telangana and neighbouring states.

According to the official announcement made on Wednesday, January 7, the special buses will be operated on January 9, 10, 12, 13, 18, and 19. However, passengers travelling on these special services will be charged 50% additional fare, as per the government-approved policy for festival operations.

TGSRTC Sankranthi Special Busses Services from Major Hyderabad Locations

To accommodate the increased travel demand, TGSRTC will operate special buses from major traffic hubs and busy localities in Hyderabad, including:

  • Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS)
  • Jubilee Bus Station (JBS)
  • Uppal Cross Roads
  • Aramghar
  • LB Nagar Cross Roads
  • Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB)
  • Bowenpally
  • Gachibowli
  • Other high-demand areas

These locations were identified based on previous years’ passenger traffic and expected rush during Sankranti.

Passenger Convenience Facilities at Boarding Points

To ensure a comfortable experience, TGSRTC has made extensive arrangements at major boarding points. These include:

  • Temporary pandals and shamianas
  • Seating arrangements with chairs
  • Public address systems for announcements
  • Drinking water facilities
  • Mobile toilet units

The corporation stated that these facilities are intended to reduce inconvenience and manage crowds efficiently during peak travel hours.

Why Additional Fare Is Being Charged on Special Buses

The TGSRTC management clarified that the 50% additional fare is not a new decision. In 2003, the state government issued an order allowing transport corporations to revise ticket prices for special festival services to cover diesel costs and maintenance expenses.

Under this policy, RTCs are permitted to charge up to 1.5 times the normal fare, but only for special buses operated during festivals and special occasions. TGSRTC has followed this rule consistently for all major festivals since its formation.

Free Bus Travel for Women Under Mahalaxmi Scheme

Good news for women passengers:
As part of the Telangana government’s Mahalaxmi scheme, free bus travel for women will continue during Sankranti on the following services:

  • Palle Velugu buses
  • Express buses
  • City Ordinary buses
  • Metro Express buses

However, this benefit does not apply to special buses, where revised fares will be applicable.

Heavy Sankranti Travel Rush Expected

Every year, thousands of families living in Hyderabad travel to their hometowns within Telangana and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to celebrate Sankranti. With expectations of a higher-than-usual passenger turnout this year, both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh transport corporations have expanded their special service operations.
